Russell Crowe in The Exorcism (2024)

He plays a troubled actor shooting a horror film. It's written and directed by Joshua Miller son of Jason Miller who played Father Karras in The Exorcist.

I saw this trailer yesterday. It looks horrible. I was surprised to see Samantha Mathis's name pop up in the cast list--haven't seen her around in much lately.

by Anonymousreply 1April 28, 2024 5:43 AM

I'll watch it. I'm a sucker for shitty horror films, and no matter how fat he gets, I'll always have a soft spot for Rusty.

by Anonymousreply 2April 28, 2024 10:53 AM

Niles IS Father Merrin redux!

by Anonymousreply 3April 28, 2024 11:23 AM

Didn’t he already make an exorcism movie?

by Anonymousreply 4April 28, 2024 11:58 AM

Yeah, this one. Was pretty crappy.

Do these nepo kids wake-up at age 40 and decide it's time to find a career?

by Anonymousreply 6April 28, 2024 12:12 PM

Is he seriously trying to kill his career?

by Anonymousreply 7April 28, 2024 12:13 PM

Why Joshua Miller is probably making this movie (about movie sets being attacked by demonic forces):

—Multiple deaths during filming of The Exorcist

—Multiple injuries (Jason Patric, Miller's oldest son, was almost killed)

—Set burned down (only Regan's bedroom)

—Mercedes McCambridge son - family murder & suicide

I'm not saying the movie will be good, I'm just saying that there has been enough chatter about the happenings related to this movie that it's spawned a documentary and lots of actors (such as Ellen Burstyn) coming forward and saying that they believed the set was "under attack". It's a great premise for a movie.

Bottom line, there were way too many things that happened that cannot be easily explained away as coincidence. I know I won't convince the majority atheist audience here but it's what I believe. Along with many others.

Joshua Miller has been a writer/producer for 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 11April 28, 2024 10:34 PM

Crowe looks like he weighs about 400 pounds.

David Hyde Pierce is obviously the big bad, right?

by Anonymousreply 12April 28, 2024 11:32 PM

Sad last days!

by Anonymousreply 13April 29, 2024 8:32 PM

Crowe was ok in the last exorcism movie he made as the motorcycle driving exorcist. He got better ink than the film got. His sidekick priest wasn't bad either. Maybe this will be a recurring character? Don't know much about this one but I'll see it for Russell.

by Anonymousreply 14April 29, 2024 10:01 PM

Joshua Miller was that creepy kid in Near Dark.

by Anonymousreply 15April 30, 2024 1:54 AM

Exorcism films no longer work because most of the Western world has turned against religion and especially the Catholic Church. It’s not frightening anymore. This stuff works on third world places where they don’t have money to see films.

by Anonymousreply 16April 30, 2024 2:13 AM

Didn’t he just do The Pope’s Exorcism?

by Anonymousreply 17April 30, 2024 2:13 AM

He did “The Pope’s Exorcist” last year. Now this?! They’re not even related films. They’re both exorcism films. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 18April 30, 2024 2:14 AM

I saw an interview with RC about "The Pope's Exorcist". Crowe said that he had no idea that there really is such a person - who Crowe met seeking some help with his character.

I remember that RC said he asked him which movie, if any, can closest to what really happened with actual exorcisms.

The response from the priest was "The Exorcist".

by Anonymousreply 19May 1, 2024 2:10 AM

No surprise Joshua Miller is gay.

by Anonymousreply 20May 5, 2024 4:55 PM

Count me in. I’ll watch anything with Russell in it. The Pope’s Exorcist was decent. Hell of a lot better than that terrible Exorcist reboot that came out last year.

by Anonymousreply 21May 5, 2024 5:11 PM

Is this a documentary about Russell Crowe trying to exorcise his addiction to alcohol, pills, or Krispy Kreme donuts?

by Anonymousreply 22May 5, 2024 5:19 PM

I started watching The Pope’s Exorcist a few months ago but lost interest. It didn’t help that his character drove from Italy to Spain on a Mobylette.

by Anonymousreply 23May 5, 2024 5:29 PM

I hated this movie (Pope's Exorcism) and hated Crowe in it (I'm usually indifferent to him). Yet, weirdly, family and co-workers enjoyed it. Aside from the hot young Italian priest, there was nothing salvageable from this late-entry Conjuring knock-off.

by Anonymousreply 24May 5, 2024 5:49 PM

That's a different movie.

by Anonymousreply 25May 5, 2024 5:50 PM

I know, I was referencing Pope Exorcism since it's already been brought up. I should have said "that" instead of "this"

by Anonymousreply 26May 5, 2024 5:51 PM

Joshua Miller wrote a semi autobiographical novel about a child star who is sexually abused by his father.

by Anonymousreply 27May 5, 2024 5:52 PM

Russell has been my go-to since The Quick and the Dead in 1994. He's old, he's fat, but I'd still buy a ticket to watch him mow the yard or paint a fence.

by Anonymousreply 28May 5, 2024 5:58 PM

[QUOTE] I started watching The Pope’s Exorcist a few months ago but lost interest. It didn’t help that his character drove from Italy to Spain on a Mobylette.

Are you kidding me? That scooter probably accounted for half the film’s revenue. It made for a great marketing device. In fact when the director announced the sequel on Twitter, he told everyone to “gas up their Lambrettas.” The fans loved seeing the Father on his scooter and when they start running ads for the sequel, I guarantee that’s the first thing you’ll see.

by Anonymousreply 29May 5, 2024 6:04 PM

R28, I doubt Russ would have the energy to do either without an oxygen tank and a Vitamin B drip.

by Anonymousreply 30May 8, 2024 2:08 AM

Oh, and R28, if you thought Russ was hot in the Quick and the Dead, go see him in "The Sum of Us" playing a gay footballer down under.

Joshua John Miller was also the weird younger brother in "Teen Witch".

[quote]R19: I remember that RC said he asked him which movie, if any, can closest to what really happened with actual exorcisms... The response from the priest was "The Exorcist".

'𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐭' (1973) gets such props because a couple of actual priests served as consultants on the film, and the actual wording of The Roman Ritual: The Rite of Exorcism was used verbatim by the actors.

None of that speaks to 'what really happens' at actual exorcisms, which isn't much. Certainly nothing supernatural.

by Anonymousreply 38May 8, 2024 3:54 PM

Maybe Josh got the brains in the family. Jason always seemed like a himbo.

by Anonymousreply 39May 8, 2024 3:57 PM

Russell’s looks don’t matter while he’s got that voice. The best voice in movies, if you ask me.

by Anonymousreply 42May 8, 2024 11:00 PM

I hope Russell considers Ozempic. He's getting fatter with each movie.

Nice try, haters. The photo in R59 is from the movie “Unhinged” which was filmed years ago. He purposely gained a lot of weight for the role. He dropped much of it by 2021, and was much slimmer in The Pope’s Exorcist, which came out last year. In his normal daily life, he’s just got a dad bod. There was one good film 50 years ago and the concept is beyond parody at this point.

Not scary. Not even funny.

But I will give Blatty this credit: the book and film were great propaganda.

Blatty managed to blame a trouble girl's problems on the breakdown of the nuclear family and her working mother independence.
